Inspiration

Last week was my favorite week of our summer thus far.  The MiMBY Girl was not enrolled in camp, the weather was conducive to exploring, and we had no real plan for each day. So, we made a dress: 

We saw an inventive theater production of one of my favorite books:  James and the Giant Peach.  And we went with friends to a new place to treasure that is close to home. The Roy H. Park Preserve is part of the Finger Lakes Land Trust and is the source for 6 Mile Creek, which provides drinking water for much of Ithaca.

The geography of this area gives us wonderful glens and gorges to admire and explore.

Rays of light.

I am rubbish at photography, but occasionally even I stumble upon an image to admire.  I love those mushrooms clinging to the the stones. 

The MiMBY Girl mastered her bike, a welcome milestone for her dad who ran the entire distance to what we fondly refer to as The Fairy Waterfall.

I wish I had a better picture of it.  We discovered it our first few days in the new house on one of our initial walks in the neighborhood and it is a constant touchstone as we drive into town and a destination for walks when we need a dose of magic.  We feel there is much to be learned about the given moment by how the water spills through the roots and the ice curtain that forms in the cold months.

As you can see, her dad is still running even though we're home and the grass will provide a soft landing if she falls.
